BANDofPARENTS bound by hope
On September 20th, Band of Parents President Gavin Lindberg met with Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-OH) in Washington, D.C.
Congress woman Pryce is the leading advocate on Capitol Hill for neuroblastoma families and works tirelessly as co-chair of the House Cancer Caucus to promote increased federal funding for cancer research and prevention programs. Unfortunately, Rep. Pryce knows first-hand the challenges faced by neuroblastoma patients having lost her daughter Caroline to this terrible disease at age 9. At their meeting, Gavin introduced Band of Parents to Rep. Pryce and expressed the group's appreciation for her leadership in introducing the "Conquer Childhood Cancer Act" and the "Access to Cancer Clinical Trials Act." The Conquer Childhood Cancer Act would authorize $150 mill ion over 5 years for pediatric cancer research and awareness programs at the National Institutes of Health. The legislation is making good progress in the House having secured 160 bipartisan co-sponsors. It's companion bill in the Senate (introduced by Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) was unanimously approved by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on November 14th and awaits consideration of the Senate floor. Congresswoman Pryce expressed her strong support for the mission of Band of Parents and congratulated the families for standing together in the face of adversity. To learn more about Rep. Pryce and her legislation please visit -- www.house.gov/pryce.
